What’s your Ascendant? Ganesha helps you find out

The twelve Houses of a horoscope are considered as a record of the entire life and qualities of the person. The first House, about which we will learn in detail, is the backbone of any horoscope. The first House is known as Lagna (Ascendant), and the Lord of the first House is called as Lagnesh or Ascendant.
According to Vedic astrology, the first House of the horoscope represents the physical presence of the person. It represents physique, early life, childhood, health, character, physical built, complexion, virtues, will power, fame, beauty, age, joys and sorrows, mind, physical frame, nature and one’s inclinations towards different aspects of life. This House influences the sense of knowing one’s strengths, weakness, likes, dislikes, and how they would want others to perceive them through their mannerisms, behaviour and attitude.
You don’t need an expert to tell you what your Ascendant is. Here is how you can find your Ascendant. Take your horoscope and observe the numbers written in the Houses.
Following are the numbers, and each one of them represents a particular sign.
1. Aries
2. Taurus
3. Gemini
4. Cancer
5. Leo
6. Virgo
7. Libra
8. Scorpio
9. Sagittarius
10. Capricorn
11. Aquarius
12. Pisces
Each sign has a Lord. Given below are the Lords of the 12 zodiacs.
Sun – Leo
Moon – Cancer
Mars – Aries and Scorpio
Mercury – Gemini and Virgo
Jupiter – Sagittarius and Pisces
Venus – Taurus and Libra
Saturn – Capricorn and Aquarius
If the first House has 12 written in it, Pisces is the Ascendant, and Jupiter is the Lord of the Ascendant in that horoscope.
The Zodiac signs also have some basic characteristics, which are rightly associated with the primary elements of nature namely- earth, fire, air and water. The signs possess peculiarities of these elements.

Aries, Leo and Sagittarius are known as Fire signs
Taurus, Virgo and Capricorn are known as Earth signs
Gemini, Libra and Aquarius are known as Air signs
Cancer, Scorpio and Pisces are known as Water signs

What is Astrology? A superstition, science, or a subject based on calculations?

There are various definitions of ‘Astrology’. According to critics, astrology is a superstition, while the believers in astrology would term it as science. But according to Ganesha, astrology is a spiritual subject, which depends on calculations. Horoscope is considered as the most important part of Indian astrology. And in a horoscope, all the predictions depend on the nine stars and twelve zodiacs.

The nine stars are:
Sun
Moon
Mars
Mercury
Jupiter
Venus
Saturn
Uranus
Neptune
Dragon’s head &
Dragon’s tail

The twelve zodiacs are:
Aries
Taurus
Gemini
Cancer
Leo
Virgo
Libra
Scorpio
Sagittarius
Capricorn
Aquarius
Pisces

Besides stars, the factors that affect life are the country, period & family in which one is born. E.g. ?? A & B are two different people with different horoscopes. As the horoscope depicts, A should have dark complexion, while B should have a fair complexion. But here, A is born in Perth, Australia and B is born in Nigeria. Thus in this case, A is fair-skinned, while B is dark-skinned.

Similarly, A & B are born is Jaipur & are to be married in the 14th year of age, according to the horoscope. But, A born in 1935 got married when he was 14 years old. But, B who is born in 1990 cannot marry at 14, as child marriage is a punishable crime in India now.

Family too plays a vital role in a person’s horoscope. A, who is born in a rich family will have to face less struggles, while B who is from a poor family will have to struggle hard compared to A.

Preparing a horoscope requires date of birth, time of birth and place of birth. Without this data, an astrologer cannot prepare a horoscope. Birth chart and Moon chart are the two important charts in a horoscope besides many other charts. Sun chart and Navmansh charts are also equally important. Twelve zodiacs are distributed in these twelve Houses. There is one numeric in each House:
1. Aries
2. Taurus
3. Gemini
4. Cancer
5. Leo
6. Virgo
7. Libra
8. Scorpio
9. Sagittarius
10. Capricorn
11. Aquarius
12. Pisces

The Seven stars are the Lords of the twelve zodiacs. Given below are the names of the Stars and the Zodiacs they govern:
Sun – Leo
Moon – Cancer
Mars – Aries and Scorpio
Mercury – Gemini and Virgo
Jupiter – Sagittarius and Pisces
Venus – Taurus and Libra
Saturn – Capricorn and Aquarius

This way, if 5 is written in the 1st House, it means Leo rules the 1st House of that chart, and Sun is the Lord of the 1st House. Similarly, if 7 is written in the 9th House, it means Libra rules the 9th House of that chart, and Venus is the Lord of the 9th  House.

Each star has one higher and one lower zodiac: (known as exaltation and debilitation)
Sun’s higher zodiac is Aries
Moon -Taurus
Mars – Capricorn
Mercury – Virgo
Jupiter – Cancer
Venus – Pisces
Saturn – Libra
Dragon Heads – Gemini
Dragon Tails – Sagittarius.

Similarly, each star has one lower zodiac.
Sun’s lower zodiac is Libra
Moon – Scorpio
Mars – Cancer
Mercury – Pisces
Jupiter – Capricorn
Venus – Virgo
Saturn – Aries
Dragon’s head – Sagittarius
Dragon’s tail – Gemini.

Stars on the higher position, during their period, always bring about positive effects on one’s life. Stars on the lower position, during their period, always provide negative effect on one’s life.

Each star has 30 degree. A Star up to 6 degree is child, Stars 6 to 26 degree is youth and stars above 26 degree is old. Youth stars work according to own calibre, while child and
old stars cannot work according to their strength. Indian astrology depends on Moon signs. 1/4//5/9/10 are auspicious Houses in the horoscope. The Lords of 1/4//5/9/10 have positive effects on one’s life. 3/6/8/12 are not auspicious and the Lords of these Houses always affect one’s life adversely.

This is a basic and small introduction to a ‘Horoscope’. Astrology is a vast subject. One needs to have a deep knowledge of astrology in order to make predictions. Few things always need to be kept in mind before predicting- combinations of stars, position of stars, and degrees of stars.

Career Astrology: Your weapon for success

A good career is the most important part of life today, as no one can survive without a good career in today’s world. Having a good, successful, high-profile career is becoming increasingly vital now, more than ever before. But it is also becoming equally difficult to choose the right career. This is where Career Astrology comes into picture. A learned astrologer can draw a career horoscope on the basis of the native’s birth data, and analyse what career will suit him the best.

Career astrology predicts the professional life of the native and answers the following questions about his career:

1 What is the suitable profession- job or business?
2 Which industry will be suitable for job/business?
3 What sort of a role will suit the native in a job?
4.When will the native get a good job?
5 How will his relations with his bosses be?
6.Will the authorities support the native?
7 When is he likely to get a promotion?
8 Is the current time suitable for a job change?
9 How is the current period for career?
10 What is the remedy or gemstone, if required?

It is the 10th House in which we can find our primary career goals. Hence, the 10th House is also described as outlining one’s fame, reputation, honour and highest achievements. It is also described as the boss — either your attitude towards the authority of others, or you as the authority. When you think of the 10th House, think of institutional traditions that have withstood the test of time. Government and political aims naturally fall into the domain of the 10th House.

According to Vedic Astrology, Sun is the Raja (King) of the stars. Name, fame, power or authority, management, municipal corporations, civil engineering, medicine, chemicals, architectural work, and work related to metals are a few professions related to this planet.

Moon on the other hand is the Raani (Queen) of the stars. Moon is the ruler of the mind, and gives reasoning power to the native. Administration, politics, agriculture, travel, telecom, trade in items of water, dairy farms, water works, textiles, naval work, psychiatry, medicine are a few professions related to the Moon.

Mars, according to Vedic Astrology is the Senapati (Army chief) of the stars. Mars is the ruler of stamina and ability. Army, police, information technology, mechanical, electrical and industrial engineering, trades in metals, geological institutions, railways, labour forces, surgery departments, trades in weapons, cooking are few professions related to Mars.

According to Vedic Astrology, Mercury is the Yuvraj (Prince) of the stars. Mercury is the ruler of intelligence, analytical decision and approach, banking, finance, business process outsourcing (BPO), stock market, education department, literature, book-keeping, writing, audit or accounts, oratory, ambassadorial work, astrology, engineering, crafts, etc. are a few professions related to Mercury.

Jupiter on the other hand is the Guru (Teacher or Minister) of the stars. Jupiter is the ruler of education and marriage. Education, teaching, treasury, banking, publication, content writing, law and justice, postal department, courts, temples, revenue department, advisory councils, advertisements, etc. are few professions related to Jupiter.
According to Vedic Astrology, Venus is the star of wealth. Venus is the ruler of luxury, art and love. Manufacturing or trading of cosmetics or other ornamental items, music or cultural organisers, customs, imports or exports, gems, trade in gold, foreign representatives, drama, cinema, etc. are few professions related to Venus.
Saturn is the Lord of justice. It signifies studies related to tradition, philosophy and spiritualism. It rules over all types of fuel and their extraction, excretory system and all works related to drainage, plumbing, etc. It is a signifier of labour, artisan, works, factory, refrigeration, low cadre work or services, physical and hard work of all kinds, glass or tile factories, metaphysics, philosophy, gardening, lead astronomy, agriculture, footwear, etc.
Rahu indicates research studies, big machines, their manufacturers or trade, leather goods nuclear set-ups, knowledge of import, and poisonous drugs. It has a special tang for foreign products.
Ketu indicates computers, exports, mathematics, statistics, high accuracy small machines, spiritualism, terrorism and trading of animals or their body parts.

Final verdict on the Babri Masjid-Ram Mandir dispute? Ganesha foretells

The controversy over the birth place of Lord Ram has been raging since around sixty years now. Followers of Lord Ram have been strongly advocating their cause since then. As such, there are more than thousand temples of deities in Ayodhya. In 1992, followers of Lord Ram tried to establish their view forcibly by destroying the age-old Babri Masjid. This resulted in a lot of bloodshed aftermath.

Major planet of disruption, Saturn transited through its own sign Capricorn (Makar Rashi) and Rahu transited through Scorpio (Vrischik Rashi) around that period. Transit of both these planets (Saturn and Rahu) through these signs in the past lead to difficult times for the nation. We had to fight a war with China in 1962. At that time, Saturn transited through its own sign Capricorn along with dreaded southern node or Dragon???s tail. i.e. Ketu. The entire nation was taken aback by this war.

On the fateful day of 6th December in the year 1992, Saturn again transited through own sign Capricorn and Dragon???s head i.e. Rahu transited through Scorpio. Transit of Rahu through Scorpio in the past led to unrest and further division of opinion among masses. Further, debilitated Mars transited in opposition to Saturn transiting through Capricorn. Moon transited through the decisive and aggressive Aries. This transit of Moon through Aries triggered mass agitation.

Now coming to present times, Saturn is currently transiting through Virgo (Kanya Rashi) and Rahu through its sign of debilitation, Sagittarius. Jupiter is currently transiting through own sign Pisces (Meen Rashi). This is in opposition to Saturn transiting through Virgo. Saturn and Jupiter are in square aspect with transiting Rahu. The Supreme Court was to pronounce judgement on 24th September. Moon transited through indecisive Pisces for whole day on the 24th. There was a lot of anxiety about the verdict that was to be announced by the Supreme Court.
As Moon transited through indecisive Pisces, judgement was not given on that day and was postponed to 28th September. Moon transited through Krittika, a constellation ruled by Sun. So, today’s judgement gave some direction by lifting the stay on the High Court verdict.

Now, the final judgement is slated for 30th September at about 3:30 pm by the Allahabad High court. At this time, Moon is to transit through divisive Gemini in Mrigshirsh Nakshatra.

What does this astrological phenomenon mean for the day, Ganesha tries to analyse.

Ganesha notes that on the day of the judgement, transiting Moon will be under the influence of Shani, which is transiting through another dual sign Virgo (Kanya rashi). Shani is combust and on the following day, Shani and Ravi are to conjunct. In Navmansha chart, Shani is debilitated and Sun is exalted. Moon transits through Gemini along with disruptive Ketu, and both are influenced by transiting Shani.

In view of all these positions, Ganesha feels that although the judgement is likely to spell division of the ‘land-in-dispute’ firmly, some ambiguity in judgement is likely to be there. There may be some hidden meaning in it, making it difficult for the people to understand the verdict in one go. There is a possibility that the leaders of majority community (read Hindu) will contest it. This realisation is likely to lead to further legal battle and agitation among masses. Polarisation of masses could be unprecedented. Ganesha feels that the issue is not likely to be resolved now. We may have to wait till around the middle of March to the middle of April 2011 to see the settlement of the issue in some or the other way.

May Lord Ganesha bestow wisdom on all concerned.

Live-in-relationships a substitute for poor marriage stars? Probes Ganesha

Live-in relationship, a modern day phenomenon, is a reality that is literally poking us in the face today, despite our culture and religion being completely averse to it. Perhaps the greatest contributing factor to this trend is the rapidly changing cultural values of our country – the fact that we as a culture are in such a flux that we feel directionless at times.

There could be numerous specific reasons for which people opt for this way of life and love. There may be the ones who firmly believe in shunning responsibilities, and thus marriage may not appeal to them. Ambitious and self-absorbed youth of Gen Y may not want to let anything come in their way to a successful career and a good life. A failed love affair, a marriage gone awry, a broken heart, a non-supportive family ? all or one of these too may lead one to lose faith in the institution of marriage.

And then, there could be other reasons, due to which one would prefer a live-in-relationship over marriage. Astrologically speaking, there could be stars and planetary alignments, which may make one inclined towards such a relationship. Stars and their positions in one’s natal chart may augur a not-so-happy married life. And, that is when one may decide to go for such an arrangement, especially if one is aware of this well in advance. For, many will opt for this arrangement rather than suffer in an excruciating, painful marriage!

As per the tenets of Vedic Astrology, if a Lord or Sub-Lord of the 2nd House as well as the Lord/ Sub-Lord of the 7th House in one’s natal chart is in a very poor conjunction with the Sun, one is destined to have a poor married life.

At the same time, if a Lord/Sub-Lord of the 5th House as well as the Lord/Sub-Lord of the 11th House is strong, the person may naturally feel inclined towards a live-in arrangement, even after a possible break in his/ her marriage. This certainly is different from an extra-marital relationship.

Listed below are some more possible prominent planetary alignments, which augur a poor married life for the native. (all relations should be seen in degrees with a orb limit of 6 degrees, plus or minus) :

(1) Mars in the 4th, 7th, or 8th House from the Sun/Moon
(2) Saturn in the 4th, 7th or 8th House from the Sun
(3) Rahu in conjunction with the Sun/Mars in the 2nd,  4th or 7th House
(4) Uranus in conjunction with the Sun/Moon in the 7th House, and the Sun/Moon is a Lord/Sub-Lord of the 7th House or Venus is poor
(5) Neptune in a conjunction with the Sun/Moon/Mars or is in the 4th or 7th or 8th House from the Sun/Moon/Mars
(6) Venus in conjunction with Moon, but is aspected by a malefic planet or is in Paapkartari or both Moon and Venus are in Krutikka/Moola Nakshatra
(7) Saturn in the 7th House from the Moon
(8) Uranus in the 3rd, 5th, 9th or 11th House from the Moon
(9) Uranus in the 4th, 7th or 8th House from the Moon
(10) Mars in the 12th House from Venus, in degrees as well as House-wise
(11) Venus in the 4th, 7th or 8th House from Mars
(12) Saturn in conjunction with Mars in the 7th House
(13) Uranus in conjunction with Mars in the 2nd, 3rd,  4th, 7th, 8th or 12th House.
(14) Rahu, Ketu, Uranus, Neptune or Pluto alone in the 7th House, and aspected by a malefic planet.
(15) If Saturn in the 4th House from the Moon, the person will not be too inclined to marriage itself.
(16) Venus placed in the Kruttika/Magha/Moola Nakshatra.
(17) Neptune in conjunction with the 4th, 7th or 10th House from Venus.
(18) Lord or Sub-Lord of 7th House in the 6th, 8th or 12th House.
(19) Jupiter in the 7th House and in Taurus/Libra sign.
(20) Venus in Pisces, and aspected by a malefic planet.
(21) A Lord or Sub-Lord of the 6th House (enemies’ house) is placed in the 7th House.
(22) A Lord or Sub-Lord of the 7th House in a Nakshatra, the Lord of 64th Navmansha, 64th Navmansha or in 22nd Dreshkan, which falls in the 8th House. This will create problems in one’s life generally too.
(23) A Lord or Sub-Lord of the 7th House in the Nakshatra of Gulik or is aspected/or is in conjunction with Gulik.

Thus people may consult an astrologer to find out their marriage prospects, and to get detailed Kundali readings. And, then some of them if destined for a poor married life may prefer to go in for a live-in or a contractual relationship, provided the 5th , 11th and 3rd Houses in their charts are strong.

How wealthy will you be? Your ‘Hora chart’ reveals it for you

According to the Indian astrology, a horoscope is prepared at the time of the child’s birth. Basically, there are 16 types of charts and these are known as Shodashvarg Kundalis. However, there are a few astrologers who prepare six types of charts known as Shadvarg Kundalis.

Following are the names of 16 types of charts:

(1) Janmalagna (Kshetra) (2) Hora (3) Dreshkan (4) Saptamansha (5) Navmansha
(6) Dwada-shansha (7) Trishansha (8) Chaturthansha (9) Dashansha (10) Shodashansha (11) Vinshansha (12) Chaturvishansha (13) Bhansha (14) Khavedansha (15) Akshavedansha (16) Shashtyansha
Generally, people are familiar with only Janmalagna & Navmansha charts. But, an astrologer has to study all these charts before predicting dashas, transits & various yogas in the chart. Hora is usually studied for the wealth of the native i.e. his/her financial condition during the entire life span.

The Hora chart is divided into 2 parts. It has only 2 Lagnas/Rashis- Cancer & Leo. All the first 15 degrees of male Rashis (Aries, Gemini, Leo, Libra, Sagittarius & Aquarius) come under Leo. The next 15 degrees come under Cancer. On the other hand, all the first 15 degrees of female Rashis (Taurus, Cancer, Virgo, Scorpio, Capricorn & Pisces) come under Cancer. The next 15 degrees come under Leo.
From a Kshetra chart (with the degrees of all the planets including Lagna), it is easy to find out a Hora Lagna & the position of all the planets.

Now, we give points to each planet as under:

  • 5 points to exalted planet (only Jupiter will get this if it is placed in Cancer Hora).
  • 4 points to a planet, which is the Lord of the Hora (only Moon will get it if it is placed in Cancer Hora, or Sun will get it if it is placed in Leo Hora).
  • 3 points to a planet placed in a friend?s Hora (Rashis).
  • 2 points to a planet placed in neutral Hora.
  • 1 point to a planet placed in enemy’s Hora.
  • 0 points to a planet placed in debilitated Rashis (only Mars will get it if it is placed in Cancer Hora).

In case of Mars & Jupiter in Cancer Hora, they will not get any point for being in friend?s Hora. One has to double the points if planet/Lagna if it is in the same type of Rashis (male/female) & reduce the points to half if planet/Lagna is in the other type of Rashis (male/female).

Thus, through this study, astrologers can derive which Hora is more powerful.

If the 2nd House is powerful in case of a Cancer Lagna in Hora chart, the native will accumulate or earn good wealth.

If the 12th House is powerful in case of a Leo Lagna in Hora chart, the native will experience financial constraints.

It may so happen that both the Rashis / 2nd House / 12th House are equal in points, in this case, the native will not make a lot of money, but will maintain what he/she inherits.

It is important to know which House is being occupied by a particular planet & the capacity of the planet to produce the results (The same rule is applicable to Antardasha/Pratiantardasha).

  • Lord of 1st House:- May be considered as the best, provided it is not debilitated or aspected by a malefic planet or in conjunction with malefic planet or asth or not being placed in 6th or 8th  or 12th House. This mahadasha gives luxury, increase in wealth, improved health.
  • Lord of 2nd House:- A very good earning. If this Lord is being aspected or in conjunction with malefic or weak planet then in the Antardashas of the Lords of 6th or 7th or 8th House, a family crisis takes place or the expenses increase. If a Lord of 2nd House is Shubh grah or strong enough then a native gets good financial benefits.
  • Lord of 3rd House:- Oppositions, financial losses are likely if it is not being placed in 3rd or 6th or 8th or 11th or 12th House. In all these 5 Houses it gives a positive result.
  • Lord of 4th House:- Increase in wealth, comfort with vehicle, gain from mother are likely, provided it is not weak or aspected or in conjunction with malefic planet. If it is weak or aspected or in conjunction with a malefic it will create differences with mother and may give some heart trouble too.
  • Lord of 5th House:- Very good results. One may get success in studies, birth of child is also possible. In the Mahadasha of 5th House Lord, Antardashaswami of 1st or 5th or 9th House Lord gives the best results. • Lord of 6th House:- If this Lord is placed in 3rd or 6th or 11th or 12th House, it gives a positive result. Similarly, in the Mahadasha of 6th House Lord and Antardashaswami of 6th or 8th or 12th House, it gives a good result. If Lord of the 6th House is strong or it is being placed in 1st, 4th, 5th, 7th, 9th or 10th House, it results in poor health, increases enemies or gives troubles from the juniors or servants.
  • Lord of 7th House:- If it is strong or being placed in 1st, 4th, 5th, 7th, 9th or 10th House, it gives very good results- a good marital life, gains through business partner, fame in society. But, if it is placed in 6th or 8th or 12th House or if it is weak or asth, problems in married life, health problems, differences with business partner or loss of wealth are not ruled out.
